County gets grant to upgrade polling places

Morgan County voters will see improvements in the places where they vote in 2012 thanks to a $150,309.77 Help Americans Vote Act (HAVA) grant.
The grant in part of a $6.7 million federal grant being handled by the Secretary of State’s office. Each county is receiving a portion of the money based on the number of registered voters it has. Morgan County’s latest voter count is 65,942.
“We’ll use the money for several things, all focused on making our voting precincts more accessible to the public,” said Morgan County Probate Judge Greg Cain.  “For one thing we will replace our voting booths, which are 30 years old.”
“This is coming at a good time,” he added. “It’s going to allow us to make some needed improvements that are out of reach of our operating budget.”
