Norman Phillip ‘Phil’ Gilchrist

Funeral for Norman Phillip “Phil” Gilchrist, 76, of Somerville will be Sat., Jan. 28, at 2 p.m. at Somerville Church of God with Bro. Michael Gunter and Dr. Harold Fanning officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Visitation will be Fri., Jan. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home
Burial will be in Somerville Church of God Cemetery.
Mr. Gilchrist died Tues., Jan. 24, 2012, at his residence. He was born Aug. 14, 1935, in Morgan County to Vardy Poteet “Sport” Gilchrist and Moselle Hollaway Gilchrist. He was a member of Somerville Church of God and a successful cattleman and farmer. He was retired form Matthews Industries and served in the U.S. Army with the 66th Military Police. H was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister and a half-sister, Margie Poteet.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Eubanks Gilchrist of Somerville; a son, Terry Gilchrist of Somerville; two daughters, Phyllis Gilchrist Brewster of Somerville and Karen Gilchrist Childers of Eva; two brothers, Luke Pryor Gilchrist and wife Lynda of Cotaco and Skeggs Gilchrist and wife Francine of Somerville; five sisters, JoAnn Pridmore of Eva, Carolyn Jones and husband James of New Castle, WA, Barbara Earle and husband John of Huntsville, Dianne Thompson and husband Michael of Trussville ad Kay Wilder of Somerville; two surviving grandchildren, Heather Childers Owens and husband Harrell and Chad Childers; 15 nephews and nieces; 20 great nephews and great nieces; and a great-great niece.
Pallbearers will be Terry Gilchrist, Chad Childers, Pryor Gilchrist, Skeggs Gilchrist, Jack Crutchfield, James Patillo and Ted Grantland.
