HHS girls runner-up to Decatur

Hartselle High School’s girls soccer team fell to Decatur, 10-1, in the championship game of the Morgan County Soccer Tournament at the Jack Allen Complex in Decatur on Saturday.

The Lady Red Raiders, (11-6) jumped out to a 7-0 first half lead with Mariah Mort scoring four of her seven goals within a seven-minute span of the first 20 minutes.

Decatur went 5-0 in the tournament and outscored its opponents 43-2.

Leah Roberts scored Hartselle’s only goal with a minute left in the first half. She made the play on a pass from Sarah Horner.

Head Coach Jeff Roberts complimented the Lady Tigers for coming back and playing a strong second half.

“You played hard, especially in the second half,” he told them, “Be proud of yourself because you didn’t give up. You took them out of goal for the most part. “

The Lady Tigers (11-9) had won 10 of 11 games going into the tournament final, after starting the season 1-8.

Hartselle’s Leah Roberts and Alycia Timm were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Mallory Schmidt of Decatur won the MVP award.

Other members of the All-Tournament Team are: Mort and Mallory Papich, Decatur; Tara Rodriquez and Pauline Chavez, Austin; Blaire Sanders and Chelsea Sanders; Candice Brownfield, Priceville; Rachel Fredericks, Danville; and Brandy Hoffman, Danville.
