Falkville track teams finish third, 11th at state

Tiana Drinkard won first place in the javelin throw and led Falkville High School’s girls track team to a third place finish at the Class 2A State Track Meet at Selma Friday and Saturday. The team came in second in 2011.

Drinkard’s throw of 114-01 feet was 12 feet longer that the second place finisher.

Falkville High’s boy’s finished 11th overall on the strength of a third place finish by the 4×400 meter dash relay team.

Eight members of both teams combined earned all-state recognition by finishing third or better in their events.

They were: Dinkard, first in javelin; Amber Riddle, second in 100m hurdles and third in 300m hurdles; Sarah Ayre, third in triple jump; and Jaclyn Koerber, second in pole vault; and Travis Sumerel, Aaron Estes, Alex Tuttle and Cade Wilemon, third in 4x400m run. Wilemon also came in fifth in the mile run and Tuttle finished eighth in the 1600m run.

Other team members who participated at the meet were: Girl’s Division—Autumn Eddy, Heather Smith, Lizzie Davis, Katrina Koerber and Areal Williams; Boy’s Division—Aaron Becerra, Canaan Smith, Drake Hamilton, Austin Wilhite, Daniel Lockhart, Hunter Woodall, Lucas Johnson and Clay Kyle.

Danville girls finish 15th in 3A

The Lady Hawks scored finished 15th in Class 3A, thanks to high finishes from Hannah McClung and Tara Jolley.

McClung was third in the triple jump with a 31-7.5 effort and also took sixth place in the high jump with 5 feet.

Jolley was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 29-8.

Nathan Bridge was the only boys track team member to score points for Danville. He was eighth in the 300m hurdles with 44.13.

Bell places at state

Priceville’s Nick Bell qualified for the finals in the 100m dash and finished eighth with a time of 11.52 at the Class 4A-6A state meet in Gulf Shores. That was good enough to put Priceville at 26th place overall in the team standings.

Tim Rayman was also close to scoring, finishing the 800m run ninth with a time of 2:06.14. He was just six seconds off the winning time of Oneonta’s Alex Gilliland.

Badger places third

Brewer’s Trina Badger turned in a great performance in the 3,200 meters, taking third place and scoring Brewer’s only team points of the state meet. The Lady Patriots’ team finished 22nd.
