HHS girls gets 4th straight golf title
Hartselle’s girls golf team won its fourth consecutive Class 1A-5A state championship at the the Robert Trent Jones Grand National course in Auburn Tuesday.
The Lady Tigers obliterated the field, beating the second place team by 56 strokes. They posted a 474 for 42-over par. Runner-up Alexandria (530, +98) edged third place Bayside Academy by one stroke.
Arin Eddy edged teammate Heather Nail for the Class 1A-5A individual state championship. Eddy posted an even-par 72 after an 81 on Monday.
She moved to +9 with a birdie on the 14th hole and then had par on the remaining four holes to finish with a 153 for the two-day tournament.
Nail was consistent shooting a 75 on the first day and a 79 on the second day to post a 154. On the second day, she moved to +7 with a birdie on the 14th hole but had a bogey and a double bogey in the final four holes to finish +10 in second place.
Nail was the only Class 1A-5A golfer to post two rounds under 80 in the tournament.
Beth Ann Compton also posted a seventh place finish with an 82 on the second day, giving her +23 for the tournament.
Kaylon King also had an 82 on the second day to take ninth place with +27.
Overall, Hartselle improved on Day 2, shaving eight strokes off of its Monday total for a 233.
