Bids for HHS athletic facility at $2M
The new Hartselle High School athletic facility will cost about $2 million if the Board of Education approves the low bid received today.
During a big opening Wednesday afternoon, the low bidder for the fieldhouse and indoor practice facility was $1,999,000 from Garber Construction Co., Inc., in Huntsville.
Other bidders were $2,088,000 from Boatner Construction Co., Inc., in Rainbow City, $2,033,980 from Boyett Construction in Moulton and $2,391,365 from Joiner Construction Co. in Vinemont.
Contractors also had submitted bids for just the fieldhouse with Garber Construction’s $1,337,000 bid coming in as the low bidder again. All other bids were at least $39,000 more than Garber’s bid.
School Superintendent Dr. Mike Reed said he didn’t know whether the board of education would want to move forward with the project, but he did believe the project should be able to fit into the total project’s budget.
“I will have to discuss it with school board members before we can award the bid,” Reed told the contractors who attended the bid opening.
The new fieldhouse will include locker rooms, a weight-training area and offices for coaches. The indoor practice facility will be large enough to house a 25-yard football field on a synthetic playing surface.
