Morgan County has met requirements for membership in the Top of Alabama Regional Council of Governments (TARCOIG), subject to the Governor’s approval.

“They (directors) have given us their vote of confidence and we’re waiting on the Governor to give us the go-ahead,” said Morgan County Commission Chairman Ray Long. “There’s the matter of a realignment of membership involving districts 11 and 12

and we’re confident that’s going to happen soon.”

Long said Morgan County will have five seats on the TARCOG board and the county’s representatives will begin meeting with TARCOP monthly after membership is cleared with the governor’s office.

Under the new setup, TARCOG will serve six counties: Madison, Limestone, Jackson, Decal, Marshall and Morgan.

Morgan County served notice to the North-Central Alabama Regional Council of Governments “NARCOG” that it was removing it membership about four months ago. However, all commitments were ensured through Sept. 30, 2012.
