County BOE adds dime to price of lunches

School lunch prices at Morgan County Schools will go up by a dime across the board, effective with the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year.

The adjustment was approved by the Morgan County Board of Education at its regular meeting on July 19 following a recommendation from Mary Beth Terry, director of child nutrition.

Students will pay $2.15; school personnel, $2.60; and guests, $3.10. Breakfast prices will remain unchanged.

The board approved a five-cent increase across the board at its June meeting after Terry recommended a 25-cent increase. At that time Terry reported that that the USDA Food and Nutrition Service was mandating a minimum nickel increase.

She said at the July 19 meeting a 15-cent increase will be required over the next two years to meet USDA’s mandate, with a miminum 10-cent increase required in 2012-2013.
