Hartselle High School’s varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams launched preseason workouts on Thursday with 22 players vying for starting positions in the upcoming season.

The challenge facing head coach Tonya Lybarger and assistant coach Kathy Cheatham is filling the holes left by four graduating seniors, Olivia Golden, Katelyn Hill, Elizabeth Russell and Savanne Howard.

“Those four players contributed greatly to our success last season and they’re going to be missed,” said Lybarger. “We have talented returning players who can step up but they are lacking in varsity experience. “We need to get them as many reps as possible in the pre-season. We’re concentrating on improving ball control and training our setters.”

The Lady Tigers have four returning starters, Taylor Lybarger, Sarah Ellen Battles and Haley Jared, all juniors, and Kaylee Shelton, a senior.
