Teens win top honors in 5K race
Published 9:45am Thursday, September 20, 2012Two teenagers finished with the fastest times in the male and female divisions of the Depot Days 5K run at Sparkman Park on Saturday.
Ben Gilley, 16, of Town Creek came in first overall with a time of 17:24 while Cele Moon, 14, of Muscle Shoals finished 10th overall and first in the female division with a time of 22:19.
“It was a fast course and I was pleased with my time,” said Gulley.
Both runners were first time participants.
The 5K run attracted 83 participants while the 1-mile fun run had 30 participants. Pepsi and Hartselle Urgent Care were co-sponsors.
Jonathan Lindsey of Hartselle was the second place finisher with a time of 19:12. Other top 10 finishers were: Jon Elmore of Decatur, 19:20; Matt Hames of Decatur, 19:23; Chase Taylor of Hartselle, 21:35; Todd McDonald of Decatur, 21:40; Kris Ward of Hartselle, 21:50; Robert Wesley of Danville, 22:10; and Ben Eubanks, of Hartselle, 22:14.
