McKendree UMC youth plan pumpkin fundraiser

The youth at McKendree United Methodist Church in Massey will be selling pumpkins as a fundraiser beginning on Oct. 8 and continuing throughout that week. Proceeds will be used to help fund an on-going improvement project at the youth center. The group has already completed a porch and ramp. The youth group meets on Sun. and Wed. nights and new members are welcome. For additional information, call 256-462-3302. Kevin Crawley is youth director.

Falkville Public Library will be selling bags of paperback and hardback books at the Fall Festival on Sat., Oct. 17. for $5 per bag. The books will include children’s, crafts, food, inspiration, biographies, fiction, romance, mystery, history, western humor, sports, science. travel and more.

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church are requesting donations for Operation Christmas Shoe Box. Items needed include school supplies, toiletries and small toys and games. Any help and support will be greatly appreciated.

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church recently remembered deceased members with Sept. birthdays, as follows: Nancy Holt Stringer, Sept. 9, 1941 – Aug. 2, 2005; Wilma Hensley Vest, Sept. 20, 1922 – Sept. 16, 1999; Mildred Kelso, Sept. 22, 1928 – Dec. 9, 2002; Robert Louis Turrentine, Sept. 23, 1926 – May 10, 2003; Redding Morgan, Sept. 25, 1929 – Mar. 20, 2008; and Ruby Moore Johnson, Sept. 27, 1912 – Apr. 19, 2002.

Congratulations to students at Danville-Neel Elementary School for collecting $1,530.51 in a school-wide penny drive recently. Second grade classes were recognized as first through fourth place winners as follows: Lawrence class, first, $134,57; Holland class, second, $130,61; Childers class, third, $130.60; and Kelso Class, fourth, $115.73. Mrs. Wenzler’s fourth grade class won the PTO pizza party.
