HHS girls cross country finishes third at Cullman

Hartselle High School’s girls cross-country track team logged its best performance of the season in Cullman on Saturday by finishing in second place.

Three Lady Tigers finished among the top 15 runners. They were Taylor Barnett, Reagan Bowling and Abigail Davis. Their times were 22:18, 23:24 and 23:32, respectively.

In addition, Brantley Owens came in 16th with a time of 24:32, Lindsey Elmore finished 18th with a time of 24:45 and Kayla Norwood finished 21st with a time of 25:02.

“I was really pleased with where the girls placed as a team,” said head coach Kenneth Lopez. “This is a young team that is beginning to mature. I think they are beginning to realize they are capable of competing with the best runners in this area.”

Lopez also singled out two members of the boy’s JV team who had good performances in the 3200 meter run. Timothy Ammons, a freshman, finished the run with a time of 13:29 and Dustin Black, a seventh grader, finished 13th with a time of 14:06.

The varsity boy’s team finished sixth in their division.

Aaron Davis led the way buy finishing in 17th place with a time of 18:31 and John Paulsen came in 22nd with a time of 18:27.

The teams will be off this weekend but will compete in the Northwest Alabama Championships in Oakville on Oct. 25. This competition will also determine Morgan County winners.
