Hartselle wins area tournament

No. 2 Hartselle (41-19) won the Class 5A, Area 15 tournament Thursday night by sweeping West Point and East Limestone at the J.C. Pettey Center.

By winning the area tournament, they advanced to the North Super-Regional at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville Oct. 26-27.

Hartselle will face Area 11 runner-up Center Point in the first match Oct. 26 at 12:45 p.m. East Limestone also advanced and will take on Area 11 winner Pinson Valley.

In the first match, the Lady Tigers defeated West Point 25-10, 25-15, 25-15 to advance to the area finals.

Taylor Dellinger led the way with 12 kills and 12 digs while Haley Jared added eight kills, five blocks, nine digs and a pair of aces.

Taylor Lybarger also had seven kills, 15 digs and a pair of aces. Melissa Paul Hill collected 18 assists, two blocks and eight digs. Tori Denslow scored five kills and two blocks. Sarah Ellen Battles added two aces and 14 digs.

Claire Forsythe had three kills, a block and dig and Katy Beth Bole added two kills and an assist. Tori Miller and Jordan Barbrey had one dig each.

In the championship match, the Lady Tigers defeated East Limestone 25-19, 25-15, 25-18. Dellinger led the team with 10 kills, 13 digs, three aces and a pair of blocks while Jared and Lybarger had nine kills apiece. Lybarger also added eight digs, a block and an assist while Jared had nine digs, two blocks and an ace.

Hill set up 30 assists to along with four digs, two blocks, an ace and a kill. Bole had three kills and six blocks while Battles had five aces and nine digs. Denslow added two kills, two blocks and two blocks with an assist and a dig. Miller also had five digs and an ace.

Lady Tigers split with Boaz, Guntersville

Hartselle’s Lady Tigers (39-19) defeated Boaz and lost to host Guntersville in a volleyball tri-match on Oct. 16.

Hartselle defeated Boaz. 25-19, 25-13, and fell to Guntersville, 25-21, 25-15.

Taylor Dellinger paced the Lady Tigers against Boaz with nine kills and eight digs. Haley Jared had six kills, eight digs and three blocks, Taylor Lybarger added four kills, eight digs and a block; Melissa Paul Hill had 19 assists, five digs, three blocks, two aces and two kills, Sarah Ellen Battles scored five digs, two assists and an ace; Tori Miller had three digs and an ace, Tori Denslow added a dig and a kill and Katy Beth Bole had a kill and an assist.

Against Guntersville, Dellinger had six kills, six digs and a block, Jared scored six kills, two digs and two blocks, Lybarger added three kills, eight digs and an ace, Hill scored 16 assists, two digs and a kill, Battles had seven digs; Miller added two digs, Denslow had a dig and a block and Bole had a kill and a block.
