Priceville votes in liquor

Published 9:39pm Tuesday, November 6, 2012

Priceville voters favoring the sale of alcoholic beverages in their town came away the winner in a wet-dry municipal option election on Tuesday.

The count was 628 votes for those casting “yes” votes on the question of whether or not alcoholic beverages should be allowed to be sold within the town limits while those voting against the proposal totaled 597, a 31-vote difference.

Voter turnout was heavy with about 75 percent of the town’s approximately 1,650 registered voters casting ballots.

The measure was defeated by four votes in a local option referendum in November 2010.

At their last regular work session, the mayor and council discussed briefly putting together an ordinance to control alcohol sales but decided to put the matter on hold until after the election.
