Talent show stunt lands Hartselle girl on TV show

Effie Mae does a back bend in front of the Barkley Bridge Elementary School sign. | Clif Knight

A back bend that went awry landed a fifth grader at Barkley Bridge Elementary School a spot on America’s Funniest Videos.

Effie Mae Hagemann’s unrehearsed bedroom fall will air Sun., Nov. 11, at 6 p.m. on WAAY 31, the Huntsville ABC affiliate.

Effie Mae’s claim to television fame stemmed from an accident that occurred in her bedroom last March. She was practicing a back bend for her school’s Fourth Grade Talent Show when she lost her balance and crashed into a dresser. Fortunately, the accident was captured on a Webcam Effie Mae was using to video her stunts. Her father recognized the humor in the accident and sent the video to Funniest Home Videos. No word was heard back until last September when the show’s director contacted the Hagemanns and requested permission to use it on the show.

A viewing party will be held at the Brent and Tiffany Worley home in Hartselle.
