On Mon., Nov. 19, these students represented all nine Morgan County middle and elementary schools in grades 5-6-7-8 participated in the 2012 Fall Chess Tournament at Cotaco Jr. High School.

At each school, the gifted teachers held mini-tournaments to decide who would get to attend. The tourney is single-elimination until the final six students. At that point, those six play in a double elimination tournament to decide the ultimate first through fourth place trophies.

This year’s winners are as follows: first place – Connor Sims, Cotaco Jr. High; second place – Dylan Stewart, Cotaco Jr. High; third place – Eli Mann, Priceville Jr. High; fourth place – Tyler Peck, Eva; and highest points – Dhruv Patel, Falkville High.

Sponsoring gifted teachers are Paula Kiggins, Cotaco and Lacey’s Spring; Tanya McCain, Priceville; Melissa Parker, Danville and Sparkman; Mica Rabb, West Morgan and Union Hill; Cristal Owens, Falkville and Eva; and Sherri Mann, Central Office gifted coordinator.
