Hugh Fitgerald

Funeral for Hugh Fitgerald, 88, of Danville will be Fri., Nov. 30, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Danville Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Bailey and the Rev. Joe David Bailey officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Herring Cemetery. Visitation will be Fri., Nov. 30, 2012, from noon to 2 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Fitzgerald died Wed., Nov. 28, 2012, at Summerford Nursing Home. He was born Nov. 24, 1924, in Morgan County to Henry Neal Fitzgerald and Eva Mae (Holladay) Fitzgerald. Mr. Fitzgerald was born and raised in Danville and lived there his entire life. He graduated from Danville High School in 1942. He served as an MP in the Korean War from 1944-1946. He was a lifelong member of Danville Baptist Church, and served as trustee, Sunday School teacher, and was on various other committees. He was formerly employed with Wolverine Tube and Gold Kist Inc. He helped get the community’s volunteer fire department started and enjoyed sports, hunting and fishing. Mr. Fitzgerald was a supportive member of the NRA. He loved his church and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Herbert M. Fitzgerald; and a sister, Sara Fitzgerald Sims.

He is survived by his wife, Mavis McCaghren Fitzgerald of Danville; two sons, Bradley Fitzgerald and wife Joyce of Lakeland, Fla., and Joe Fitzgerald and wife Debby of Danville; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bill Marshall, Jim Tanner, Mac Fitzgerald, E.J. Fitzgerald, Charles Holladay and Brent Breedlove.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Nunn, James Kyle Lindsey, Milford Fields, Glenn Wood, Tom Marshall, Jack Summerford, Gary White and Gary Anders.

In lieu of flowers: memorial donations may be made to the Alzhiemer’s Association (alz.org) or the NRA .
