Penny for your thoughts

Published 7:15am Wednesday, December 5, 2012

Do you have something you’d like to say?

A letter to the editor or a guest column published in the Enquirer is read by the people in Hartselle and Morgan County. Here are some good reasons to speak out:

• If you want to thank someone who has gone out of their way to help you. This could be a person who stopped to change your tire on the side of the road.

• If you would like to voice an opinion on a topic that impacts a number of residents.

• If you want to call attention to someone or some group that has achieved something noteworthy.

• If you see a problem in our community and you’d like to suggest a solution.

Whatever you have to say, we’d like to help you tell everyone about it – for free. Just write us a letter or a guest column.

We have a few rules that are designed to help get your thoughts published accurately. First, we require all letters be signed and include a phone number and place of residence. We won’t publish your phone number or address, but if we have a question, we need to be able to get in touch with you.

The main difference between a letter to the editor and a guest column is the length. Letters are limited to about 300 words. Guest columns can go up to 500 words or so and include a photo of the writer.

You can write us a hand-written note or a typed message and mail it to Editor, Hartselle Enquirer, P.O. Box 929, Hartselle, AL 35640. Or you can email a message to us at news@hartselleenquirer.com.

If you are sending a column, please make sure the photo you send of yourself is at least a wallet size or a “.jpg” file about 1 MB.

Columns and letters are printed on this page. As you’ve noticed, the title of this page is Town Hall. Thus, we want to have as many people express their opinions here as possible.

Speak out. You can make a difference.

Brent Maze is the managing editor of the Hartselle Enquirer.
