McKendree UMC to host cantata

Members of McKendree United Methodist Church will be hosting a Christmas cantata Sun., Dec. 16, at 10:45 a.m. The choir director is Eric Summerford. Everyone is invited to attend.

Special belated happy birthday wishes go out this week to Amanda Willingham, who celebrated her birthday on Mon., Dec. 10.

Happy birthday wishes also go out this week to Holly Powell on Dec. 13. Also celebrating birthdays this week are Tracey Luker and Teresa Walker, both on Dec. 14.

Prayers and heartfelt sympathy go out this week for Jennifer Asherbranner and family in the loss of her father, Duane Taylor who passed away on Mon., Dec. 3. Mr. Taylor’s funeral service was held at Westside Baptist Church with David Taylor officiating .Burial was in Union Hill Cemetery.

On Fri., Dec. 7, Falk-ville Public Library’s staff and board held their December meeting and Christmas lunch. Those attending included Rhona Summerford, Pam McDonald, Kay Farrer, Tina Rogers, Jane Hill, Jenny Asherbranner and Bonnie Thompson. Also attending was the town council representative to the library, Brandon Dillard.

Members of Harmony Baptist Church are holding a food drive to help needy families/ Food items such as canned meals, stews, soups, tuna, ravioli, lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, Beefaroni, peanut butter and other food items, are needed.

The food drive will end on Dec. 21. Donated items can be left at M&M Auction with Mike Hill . They will be picked up by church members. M&M Auction is located behind Quick’s Grocery on Highway 31. All donations will be greatly appreciated.

Falkville First United Methodist Church members and visitors enjoyed a fellowship meal on Sun., Dec. 2, following the worship service. Everyone enjoyed the service, with the lighting of the Advent candle, singing Christmas carols and Holy Communion. The pastor is Dr. John Russell and the choir director is Vance Vest and the organist is Ann Vest.

Falkville and area residents met at the Jack McCaig Park on Sun., Dec. 2, for the 15th annual Christmas in the Park. The emcee for the activities was Jim Grissom. A poem was read by0 Rhona Summerford.

After the lighting of the town’s Christmas tree, David Halbrooks led the singing of Christmas carols. Brewer and Falkville high school ROTC members presented the flag ceremony. Refreshments were served.

This event was sponsored by Community Pride.
