Sparkman Elementary School first graders in Mrs. Toni Roberts’ class recently took part in a poster contest sponsored by Wayside Garden Club of Hartselle. The posters featured Smokey the Bear or Woodsey Owl. The first graders learned about fire prevention and care of the environment while working on their posters. Winners were announced Tues., Nov. 26, and were given cash prizes by the club. Each participant received a gold one dollar coin and the garden club furnished refreshments for a class party for the students. First place winner was Christina Mason. Second place went to Jonathan McCormick. Third place went to Noah Hill. Kane Dunn, Kamden Ricks and Crystal Lansdell earned Honorable Mention.
