On Wed., Dec. 5, the Morgan County Schools Scholars’ Bowl Fall Tournament was held at Cotaco Junior High School.

Five schools – Cotaco Junior High, Danville Middle, Eva Junior High, Falkville High, and Lacey’s Spring Junior High, each sent two teams. The teams played in a double elimination tournament with eight rounds.

Competition was fierce as each round, consisting of three separate games, was played.

The first game of each match had 10 toss-up questions worth 10 points each. If a team member buzzes in and answers incorrectly, a member of the opposing team may buzz in and steal the points with a correct answer.

If there are more than four players on a team, players rotate between the games.

In the second game, there are also 10 toss-up questions worth 10 points each. After each correctly answered questions, there is also a five-point bonus.

Any incorrect answers allows the opposing team an opportunity to steal the points.

The third and final game of the round sees the entire team writing the answers to 20 questions in two minutes. Afterward, the points are tallied and the teams move to their respective brackets.

The winners were as follows: first place, Danville Middle School – team A; second place, Lacey’s Spring – team B; and third place, Cotaco Junior High – team B.
