Hartselle man dies in county jail
A Hartselle man was found dead in his cell at the Morgan County Jail on Dec. 22.
Randall Hopper, 65, apparently died of natural causes in his bunk. He was pronounced dead at 5:11 a.m. by Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn.
“In cases like this it is routine procedure to have an autopsy performed to establish cause of death,” Chunn said. “The body was sent to the State Forensics Lab in Huntsville for that purpose but it will take five or six months to get the results back.”
Hopper was arrested on Dec. 13 on a DUI-related community corrections charge and was being held without bond, according to an investigator with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department.
