Tigers struggle with Warriors
Hartselle was outscored 13-3 by West Point in the second quarter, en route to the Warriors’ 55-47 win at the Pettey Center Friday night.
Hartselle trailed only 12-11 past the midway point in the first quarter, but the Warriors turned up the pressure and only allowed the Tigers to score five points over the remaining 11 minutes of the first half.
By halftime, West Point had forced 12 Hartselle turnovers and had a 31-16 heading to the locker rooms.
West Point held its biggest lead of the game at 38-22 after the first four minutes of the third quarter.
Hartselle went on an 8-0 run, thanks to a pair of 3-pointers by Preston Adams and a bucket by Thomas Fleischman, cutting the lead in half.
However, the Warriors scored the last three points of the third quarter to push the lead back to 11.
The closest the Tigers could get in the fourth quarter was seven points, as West Point held on down the stretch.
Timbo Slaton finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds followed with Adams with 14 points. Fleischman also had 10 points and eight rebounds.
The only other scorers for Hartselle were Jaylen Jackson with three and Colston Thompson with two.
Kris Keller and Jordan McKenzie led West Point with 16 points and 15 points respectively.
The Tigers (4-14) will play Falkville (7-8) on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. in the first round of the Morgan County Tournament at Priceville High School.
