James ‘Hal’ Montgomery

Funeral for James “Hal” Montgomery, 82, of Decatur will be Fri., Jan. 25, at 11 a.m. at Shoal Creek Baptist Church with Bro. Randy Sharpe and Bro. Chuck Bass officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Shoal Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Thur., Jan. 24, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Montgomery died on Tues., Jan. 22, 2013, at Floyd “Tutt” Fann Veterans Home. He was born July 27, 1930, in Lawrence County to Tandy Clifton Montgomery and Ruby Beatrice (Dover) Montgomery. Mr. Montgomery was retired from Amoco Chemical Corporation and served in the United States Army. He was Baptist in faith. Mr. Montgomery was preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Joyce Montgomery; a brother, Bobby Montgomery; and a sister, Dorothy Montgomery.

He is surived by his wife of 46 years, Carol Jean Johnson Montgomery of Decatur; two sons, Jerry D. Montgomery of Countryside, Ill., and Brian K. Montgomery of Decatur; four brothers, Raymond “Sam” Montgomery of Speake, Leamon “Bud” Montgomery of Burr Ridge, Ill., Billy Montgomery of Decatur and Thomas Montgomery of Moulton; five grandchildren, Casey Montgomery, Janae Montgomery, Jimmy Montgomery, Jordan Montgomery and Caleb Montgomery; and three great-grandchildren, Christian Montgomery, Cameron Montgomery and Gianna Montgomery.

Pallbearers will be Casey Montgomery, Rick Montgomery, Mark Montgomery, Sammie Montgomery, Cecil Ashley and Dwight Taylor.

In addition to flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shoal Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, Alacare Hospice and Hospice of North Alabama.
