Artists come from different backgrounds

Artist Forrest Long shows a display of his paintings on display at Hartselle Fine Arts Center. | Clif Knight

Long works with watercolors and has painted professionally for the past 25 years. Since he was born and raised in Nova Scotia, the subjects of his paintings reflect the natural beauty of the mountain peaks and seashore scenes of his native land.

Long owns and operates the Red Door Art Galley on Main Street in Hartselle and serves as pastor of Johnson Chapel United Methodist Church.

His wife, Patsy Carlberg, is pastor of Forrest Chapel United Methodist Church. They moved to Hartselle four years ago.

“What we hope to do is make the art community more visible in this area,” Long said.

Ballew added, “By exposing the public to the different aspects of art, we can help build support for the art talent that exists in our community and held generate support for the Fine Arts Center as well.
