Lady Devils clinch Area 14 championship

After four quarters of back-and-forth scoring, Falkville defeated Decatur Heritage at home on Saturday 45-38 to win the Class 1A, Area 11.

Leading the first quarter only by one, Sydney Moore paced the Lady Blue Devil offense in the first half. She managed eight of the first quarter’s 12 points.

Going into intermission up 20-16, the Lady Blue Devils returned in the second half to outscore DHCA 12-8 in the third, including Autumn Eddy’s buzzer beater.

Decatur Heritage fought back, hitting two big 3-pointers and trimming Falkville’s lead to just three.

A big field goal from Makenzie Smith with 1:40 to play allowed Falkville to go up by five, and forced Decatur Heritage to foul in the last minute of the game.

Autumn Eddy led the scoring drive for FHS with 15 points and seven rebounds. Sydney Moore finished with 10 points. Emily Mickleson and Lizzie Davis both managed six. Makenzie Smith and Amanda Muse had four points apiece.

The Lady Devils will play Marion County at home on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Falkville 53, Meek 27

The Blue Devils went on a 12-0 run in the first quarter kicked off by senior Lizzie Davis’s steal and two free throws, finishing the first up 17-7.

Fouls played a key role, as both teams had players in foul trouble after the first half. Meek managed 10 fouls in the first quarter and FHS had seven of its own.

The Blue Lady Devils allowed only one point scored while nine of their own in the second quarter, leading at the half 26-8.

Nine players put points on the board for the Blue Devils, leading the way were Autumn Eddy and Sydney Moore, who both managed 11 points on the night.
