Falkville falls to No. 2 R.A. Hubbard in regional

HANCEVILLE – Falkville’s season came to an end Wednesday night, as No. 2 R.A. Hubbard defeated the ninth-ranked Lady Blue Devils 61-51 in a Class 1A Northwest Regional matchup at the Tom Drake Coliseum.
R.A. Hubbard (20-5) took control of the first quarter, starting the game on an 8-0 run. Amanda Muse kicked off the Falkville offense with two free throws and Sydney Moore managed to hit a 3-pointer with less than a minute to play in first period, cutting the lead to 11-5.
FHS picked up their offensive game in the second quarter, putting 13 points on the board, seven coming from freshman Autumn Eddy.
Hubbard still led 29-18 going into halftime.

The Falkville defense held the Chiefs to their second lowest quarter of the game, but it was not enough as they were outscored in the third 14-13, giving the Lady Chiefs a 43-31 lead.
The fourth quarter sent Makenzie Smith and seniors Sydney Moore, Amanda Muse and Lizzie Davis to the bench . Smith grabbed her fifth foul with three minutes left to play, Muse with less than two, and Davis with under one minute and Moore was helped off the court with an ankle injury and would not finish the game.
Leading scorers for FHS were Sydney Moore and Autumn Eddy, both finishing with 13 each. Eddy managed a double-double with 13 rebounds as well. Both Bailey Anders and Emily Mickelson had eight points. Mickelson also had 10 rebounds. Amanda Muse managed seven points, and Lizzie Davis added two.
The Lady Chiefs were led by Alabama track and field signee, Alexandria Gholston, who had 27 points, five rebounds and three steals.
The Lady Devils finished 20-5 on the season.
