Lorene Dutton Bryant celebrates 93rd birthday

Lorene Dutton Bryant, of Massey celebrated her 93rd birthday on Sat., Feb. 16. She enjoyed a family luncheon at the home of John Steven and Laurie Bryant in the Blair community.

Mrs. Bryant was also honored with a special family party hosted by her nieces, Judy Steele, Jane Knight, June Pope and Dana Lamb from Knoxville, Tenn. The party was held at the home of Loren’s sister, Irene Dutton Pope.

Many people will remember Lorene from her long career of teaching at Danville, Massey and Crestline schools. She also taught children and worked on special children’s events at McKendree United Methodist Church.

Special belated happy birthday wishes go out this week to Blondie Morris, Charlice LeFavor, William Logan and Whitney C. Terrell, all on Feb. 25.

Happy birthday wishes go out this week to Travis Turrentine on Feb. 27 and Brittany Parker on Feb. 29.

Wonderful happy birthday wishes go out this week to my friend, Junior Taylor. He will celebrate his 39th and holding birthday on Feb. 29.

The McKendree United Methodist Church youth group and area youth enjoyed the “DNow” weekend of study, inspiration and recreation on Feb. 1–3. Twenty young people enjoyed participating in this project with emphasis on service and helping others. The youth group really appreciated the hospitality of the Partlows, who hosted the girls for the weekend, and the Crawleys at the parsonage, where the boys stayed. The youth and adult workers helped an area family with household needs and repairs following the fellowship lunch on Sunday.

The members of Shady Grove Baptist Church hosted a front pew baby shower on Feb. 10 for Jessica Raynor and Riley Self, “It’s a boy.” Shady Grove members also hosted a front pew baby shower on Feb. 17 for Brett and Kayla Riggs, “It’s a girl.”

Christian love and heartfelt sympathy go out this week to the family of Ron Beavers of Massey who passed away on Sun., Feb. 17.

Ron was well known for his music at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church and singing at many churches and special events. Ron’s students loved him and will remember his years of teaching at Speake.

The members of Shady Grove Baptist Church remember in loving memory this week: Addie Mae “Ruby” Hill from Feb. 15, 1907, to Oct. 3, 2003.

Falkville United Methodist’s youth group enjoyed meeting on Wed., Feb. 13, at 6 p.m. Following the meeting, the church held its Ash Wednesday service.

The Honduras mission team is still asking for donations of bottles of vitamins for the villagers that they will be serving in June. Each month before their trip they collect medical items.

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church express Christian love and heartfelt prayers for the following who are on the church prayer list: Robert and Bertha Self, Christy Lott, J.T. Copeland, Norris Turney, Syble Anders, Loretta H. Headly, Judy and Jim Barlow, Beth Lee, Michelle Burchell, Harold Ingle, Jeanette Martin, Sidney Woznicki, Tut McCaghren, Debra Oliver, Sherry Anderson and Ruby Terry.

The McKendree United Methodist Women met on Thur., Feb. 2, at 1:30 p.m. in the church library. One of the unit’s mission studies for the year is “World Poverty.”

Carolyn Besnyl presented the program on the first segment of the study. During the pledge, service members gave donations for local and foreign projects and pledged other donations as well. The next meeting will be on Thur., March 21, at 1:30 p.m. at the church.

The members of the United Methodist Women include Earline Morris, Lorene Bryant, Jean Lawrence, Carolyn Besnyl, Wyllene Carter, Ruth Lewis, Pam Holmes, Kay Farrer, Melee Laney, Jeannie Alexander and Tammy Vest.

The McKendree United Methodist Church choir, under the direction of Eric Summerford, is preparing special music for the Easter Sunday worship service at 10:45 a.m.

The church also sponsors a “Community Easter Egg Hunt” on Saturday before Easter.
