Danville softball off to 2-1 start

The Danville Lady Hawks won their second game of the day Saturday as they defeated the Sheffield Bulldogs 14-0 on a cold, snowy Saturday afternoon at Wilson-Morgan Park.

The Hawks had 11 hits on the day with Callie Ryan, Sloan Lindsey and Crystal Carter each having two hits. Ryan tripled, singled, drove in a run and scored a run.

Lindsey had a double and a single while scoring twice and driving in two runs. Carter had two doubles, a run scored and two RBIs. Bailey King went 1-for-2 with a home run, driving in two runs.

Morgan Weatherwax got the win while pitching 4 innings, giving up two hits and three walks while striking out two.

Danville is now 2-1 on the year and will play at home Thursday against Hanceville for an area game. The varsity will play at 6 p.m.

Danville 3, East Limestone 2

Danville picked up its first win of the season with a 3-2 win over East Limestone.

Bailey King and Hanna-Grace Sherrill had two hits apiece for the Lady Hawks. King scored a run and stole a base while Sherrill had a double, a run and an RBI.

Michelle Clem and Sloan Lindsey earned hits as well.

Savannah Bolton earned the win, allowing two earned runs on three hits and three walks with six strikeouts.

Hazel Green 5, Danville 2

Hazel Green scored to three runs in the fifth inning to break a tie and earn the win.

Callie Ryan was 2-for-2 with a triple and an RBI. Morgan Weatherwax had a hit and an RBI.

Shelby Beck collected one hit while Michelle Clem scored a run after reaching on an error.

Savannah Bolton took the loss, allowing four earned runs on 11 hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
