Robert ‘Bob’ Calvin Southern

A memorial service for Robert “Bob” Calvin Southern, 72, of Florette will be Sun., March 10, at 3 p.m. at Blue Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Ralph McCollum officiating.

Visitation with family will immediately follow the service in the fellowship hall of the church.

Mr. Southern died Sun., March 3, 2013, at his residence. He was born April 18, 1940 in North Carolina to Charlie Rose Southern and Belle Tysor Southern. He was an active member of Blue Springs Baptist Church where he headed and served on various committees. He was a member of the Brewer Lions Club, and served as president for several years. Mr. Southern was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Southern, and a sister, Mary Hester.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Bowling Southern; two daughters, Amber Southern Lee of Birmingham, and Amy Southern Shirey of Florette; two brothers, Lewis Southern of Atlanta, Ga., and Wayne Southern of Greensboro, N.C; a sister, Nancy Morgan of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and four grandchildren, Savannah and Abigail Lee and Christian and Caroline Shirey.

Mr. Southern’s body was donated to UAB Medical School.

The family requests no flowers. Memorials can be made to Blue Springs Building Fund or Hospice of the Valley.
