Falkville survives Sumiton Christian
Falkville’s baseball team overcame seven errors to defeat Sumiton Christian 7-6 Thursday on the road.
The Blue Devils built a 5-0 lead over the first inning and a half. Sumiton scored once in the bottom of the second and twice in the sixth inning.
Falkville added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning. The Eagles score three runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Alston Howard came on to retire the only two batters he faced in six pitches to earn the save. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI.
Ryan Bradford got the win by pitching five innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits and three walks with three strikeouts. He helped his own cause, going 2-for-4 at the plate.
In relief, Tanner Evans allowed one earned run on two walks and no hits with a strikeout. He also reached base on a hit and a walk. Blake Bradford also allowed an earned run on two walks and no hits.
Ryan Sullivan had an RBI single with a stolen base. Hunter Woodall had a double, reached on errors twice, stole two bases, scored once and drove in a run. Tyler Woodall had two runs scored on two walks with two stolen bases.
Designated runner Devin Reed stole two bases and scored twice. Adam Keenum also drove in a run while Bryant Hester had a walk and scored a run.
Sumiton Christian had just three hits for the game, but they left 12 runners on base. Tristan Alexander was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
