Danville falls in semifinals of DAR Tournament

Danville’s varsity softball team improved to 8-2 overall after the Lady Hawks went 4-1 in the DAR Tournament last weekend.

Danville earned wins over Geraldine, North Jackson, Arab and Brindlee Mountain. Its only loss game against New Hope in the semifinals.

New Hope 4, Danville 1

Danville’s eight-game winning streak came to an end in the semifinal round of the DAR Softball Tournament.

The Lady Hawks committed four errors and could not get any offense going until it was too late.

Trailing 4-0 and down to their last out, Hannah Grace Sherill drove in Savannah Bolton for the Lady Hawks only run. Michelle Clem led all Danville hitters with two hits, both singles.

Morgan Weatherwax took the loss, allowing no earne runs on no hits and two walks with two strikeouts in just two-thirds of an inning. Savannah Bolton pitched the rest of the way, allowing one earned run on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

Danville 7, Arab 1

Danville scored five times on just two hits in the first inning. Danville only had three hits for the game, but seven Arab errors gave the Hawks all the help they would need.

Bailey King, Morgan Weatherwax and Andrea Carter each had one hit for Danville. King stole one base and Weatherwax stole two in the win.

Savannah Bolton allowed one run on five hits and one walk with a strikeout.

Danville 2, North Jackson 1

Savannah Bolton scored the winning run on a two-out single by Bailey King.

Danville tied the game in the bottom of the third inning on a two-out double by Michelle Clem. North Jackson took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning but could manage just two more hits the rest of the game.

King led the Lady Hawks at the plate going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Danville 3, Brindlee Mtn. 0

Danville pitcher Morgan Weatherwax tossed her second shutout of the year as the Lady Hawks moved to 7-1 on the season with a 3-0 win over Brindlee Mountain.

Weatherwax gave up five hits while striking out four to pick up her second win of the year.

Leading hitters for Danville were Bailey King and Shelby Beck, each going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Danville 2, Geraldine 1

Trailing 1-0 heading into the final inning, the Danville Lady Hawks scored two runs to defeat Geraldine.

Bailey King led the inning off with a single. King would score when Shelby Beck lofted a sacrifice fly towards right field.

The outfielder dropped the fly ball and Beck was safe at 1st.

The Lady Hawks scored the winning run when Andrea Carter’s grounder was misplayed by the second baseman, allowing Morgan Weatherwax to score.

Beck led all Lady Hawk hitters with two hits (both singles) and an RBI.
