Hartselle JV edges Cullman
Hartselle JV baseball team overcame six errors by scoring five runs in the fifth inning to edge Cullman 6-5 Saturday.
After falling behind 3-1, Cooper Wright doubled to score Nic James and Holden Langston, tying the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning.
Kody Kodra later scored on a groundout by Collins Hanners to give the Tigers the lead.
Casen Wallace singled to bring in Wright.
James was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in his second at bat of the inning, which allowed Wallace to score, giving Hartselle a 6-3 lead.
Cullman scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but could get no closer.
Wright earned the win, allowing no earned runs on five hits and one walk with two strikeouts in four innings of work. Tate Mathis allowed three unearned runs on three hits and four walks with three strikeouts.
Wallace went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Wright had a hit, a run and two RBIs.
Grissom JV 7, Hartselle JV 6
Hartselle scored three runs each in sixth and seventh innings, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Grissom’s 7-0 advantage.
Nic James had a 3-run double in the sixth inning while Casen Wallace had a two-run double in the seventh inning. Austin Reed collected the other RBI on a sacrifice fly.
Jake Nelson took the loss, allowing five earned runs on 10 hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
Mason Towers allowed just one walk and no runs with two strikeouts in two innings of work.
