West Hartselle Baptist Church’s Relay for Life 5K run achieved a high level of success as it attracted 142 runners to the starting line at the old Hartselle Tabernacle on Saturday.

“We couldn’t be happier with the turnout,” said Mark Shaw, race coordinator. “Last year we registered 85 runners for the 5K and this year we have 142.

“I think we did a better job of promoting this year’s event. Plus, we have several local churches represented with a group of runners.

“This is a big boost for cancer research since all proceeds will go to Hartselle’s Relay for Life,” he said. We are grateful to everyone who had a part in making the event a big success.”

Shaw estimated that 77 to 100 West Hartselle Baptist Church members volunteered to help with the event.”
