Shirley Ann Engle

Funeral for Shirley Ann Engle, 73, of Somerville was Tues., March 19, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jim Smith officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial was in Shoal Creek Cemetery.

Mrs. Engle died on Sun., March 17, 2013, at Decatur Morgan Hospital. She was born August 13, 1939, in Morgan County to Cleveland Winfield Nar-more and Grace Barbara Nichols Narmore. Shirley was a 1956 graduate of Austinville High School and was a member of Oak Forest Baptist Church in Somerville.

She was married for 57 years to her best friend, Robert Engle. In the 1980’s, she served as Somerville court clerk and helped establish the Somerville Library. She helped with fundraisers for the preservation of the historic Somerville Courthouse, and participated in Somerville Frontier Days. She loved the outdoors. Her hobbies included fishing and hunting arrowheads. She proudly embraced her Native American Indian ancestry. She was preceded in death by two sons, Michael and Anthony Engle; a brother, Horace Narmore; and a sister, Barbara Hartselle.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Engle of Somerville; two sons, Martin Engle and wife Sudonda of Moulton, Jeffery Engle and wife Sharon of Trinity; a daughter-in-law, Melinda Engle of Athens; a brother, Donald Narmore of Melbourne, Fla.; a sister, Joy Brunton of Somerville; six grandchildren, Jeremiah Engle, Kari Engle, Chad Tribble, Brandon Bryant, Christopher Bryant and Clay Bryant; eight great-grandchildren; and caregiver, June Helms.

Pallbearers were Jeremiah Engle, Chad Tribble, Brandon Bryant, Christopher Bryant, Clayton Bryant and Bruce Brunton.
