Funeral for Virginia Rae Harmon, 71, of Somerville will be Tues., March 26, at 10 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ralph McCollum officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial will be in Blue Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Mon., March 25, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Harmon died Sun., March 24, 2013 at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Aug. 23, 1941 in Topeka, Kan., to Ralph Melvin Hagen and Virginia Leigh Mott Hagen.
She taught school for blind students in Lombard, Ill., for three years. She also taught in Castleton grade school, Valley grade school, Lincoln, Ill., grade school, St. Claire Catholic grade school in Waveland, Miss., and several other places. She did various volunteer work for many years in many places. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her cheerfulness and kindness were a blessing to all who knew her. Her strong faith in God was the reason she was as kind and loving as she was. She never met a stranger and always put everyone else first.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Virginia Hagen of Bella Vista, Ark.; her twin daughters, Heidi and Beth Harmon (Feb. 8, 1968); a brother, Stephen Harold Hagen of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a granddaughter, Lindsey Gabrielle Saint.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband; a son, Shawn Harmon and wife Melanie of Birmingham; a daughter, Sherri Saint and husband Buddy of Somerville; a sister, Mary Beth Miller and husband Lyman of Eldridge, Iowa; a brother, Charles Hagen and wife Peg of Richmond, Va.; a granddaughter, Shaniah Harmon; and a grandson Devin Sanders.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
