Lady Tigers win six games in Gulf Shores

Hartselle’s Lady Tigers won all five of their pool play games and first tournament game at the Gulf Shores Softball Classic on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

In the opening of round of the tournament on Wednesday morning, the Lady Tigers blanked East Lawrence 6-0 on the strength of seven hits and two-hit pitching.

Baylee Holt led Hartselle at the plate with a double and single and three RBIs. Hope Cain and Sarah Ellen Battles each singled and had two RBIs. Kayla Faulk, Taylor Wascavage and Haley Jared each singled. Jared was credited with the win, allowing just two hits while striking out seven and walking two batters.

In Monday’s games, the Lady Tigers defeated Smiths Station 5-3, Childersburg 5-0 and Crossville 11-3. On Tuesday, they posted a 6-1 win against Station Camp (Tenn.) and blanked Madison County 6-0.

Single elimination tournament play started Wednesday with 69 teams participating.

The Lady Tigers picked up a 5-3 win against Smiths Station in their first game on Monday.

Holt led her teammates in hitting with a home run, single and three RBIs. Wascavage had a pair of singles while Ashley Boggs, Faulk, Jared and Madeline Sittason each singled. Jada Hayes was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out three and walking one batter in four innings.

In their second game on Monday, they blanked Childersburg 5-0 on the strength of four hits and the help of six bases on balls.

Wascavage blasted a pair of doubles and drove in three runs. Holt added a pair of singles and scored three runs. Hayes was the winning pitcher. She allowed no runs on two hits while striking out nine batters in five innings.

The Lady Tigers trounced Crossville 11-3 in Monday’s final game.

Eight Hartselle Tigers had hits in the contest. Sarah Ellen Battles belted a double and single, had two RBIs and scored twice. Holt had a triple and single and knocked in three runs, Faulk doubled and scored, Wascavage had a pair of singles and scored twice and Hope Cain, Hayes, Leah Stephenson and Emily Lipinski each singled.

Jared was credited with the win. She allowed three runs on four hits while striking out five and walking one batter.

In Tuesday’s first game, the Lady Tigers won 6-1 by out-hitting Station Camp seven to two.

Holt led Hartselle’s attack with a pair of singles and two RBIs. Faulk and Hayes each doubled and Cain, Jared and Sittason each had a single. Faulk was the winning pitcher, allowing one run on two hits while striking out two and walking two batters.

In the final pool game, Hartselle exploded for 13 hits and went on to defeat Madison County 13-0.

Cain paced Hartselle at the plate with three singles and two RBIs and Holt had a pair of singles and three RBIs. Wascasvage and Hayes each had a pair of singles while Battles, Faulk, Sittason and Lipinski each singled. Faulk was the winning pitcher. She allowed no runs on six hits while striking out two and walking two batters.
