Lady Tigers fall in quarterfinals of Gulf Coast Classic

Hartselle’s Lady Tigers won all five of their pool play games and their first three tournament game before losing to Hillcrest, 5-4, at the Gulf Coast Softball Classic on Wednesday.

The wins boosted Hartselle’s season record to 18-8-1.

Hillcrest knocked the Lady Tigers out of the tournament by scoring the go-ahead and winning run in the fifth inning.

Baylee Holt paced the Lady Tigers at the plate with a double and single and two RBIs. Ashley Boggs, Sarah Ellen Battles, Kayla Faulk and Taylor Wascavage each had a single. Wascavage and Leah Stephenson each had an RBI.

In round three of the tournament, the Lady Tigers come from behind in the fifth inning to eliminate Cullman, 6-4.

Wascavage was the leading hitter with a double and two singles and an RBI. Holt had a double and an RBI, Jada Hayes had a pair of singles and two RBIs, Faulk had a pair of singles and an RBI and Battles and Boggs each had a single.

Hayes pitched the fifth inning and was credited with the win.

The Lady Tigers eliminated Smiths Station 7-2 in round two of the tournament.

Haley Jared paced Hartselle at the plate with a pair of singles, three RBIs and scored two runs. Madeline Sittason also drove in three runs on the strength of two singles and also scored a run. Holt and Wascavage each doubled and singled and Battles and Boggs each singled. Faulk got the win, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out two and walking one batter.
