Falkville opens Fayetteville tournament 1-1

Falkville began pool play of the Fayetteville Tournament Thursday with a 5-4 win over Maplesville and a 14-0 loss to No. 2 St. Luke’s.

The Blue Devils only had four hits against the Maplesville Red Devils, but two of them were a triple by Hunter Woodall and an RBI double by Ryan Sullivan, both of which scored runs. Tyler Woodall, Devin Reed and Adam Keenum also scored runs.

Ryan Bradford earned the complete game win, allowing three earned runs on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts. After giving up four first-inning runs, Bradford settled down and didn’t allow a run the rest of the way.

Falkville scored two runs in the first inning, two runs in the fourth inning and the tiebreaking run in the top of the seventh inning. Woodall had a one-out triple and then scored on a balk.

The Blue Devils committed 10 errors in a 14-0 loss to St. Luke’s. Keenum recorded the lone hit for Falkville. Brothers Tyler and Hunter Woodall drew walks while Tanner Evans and Ryan Bradford reached on errors.

Tanner Evans to the loss allowing eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Only two of the 14 runs were earned.

Leighton Lary pitched the one-hit, five-inning shutout with six strikeouts.
