Hartselle walks past East Limestone
Tyler Phillips drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning, pushing Blake Slayton home to give No. 5 Hartselle a 3-2 win over East Limestone Wednesday.
The win puts Hartselle and Cullman in a tie for first place at 3-1 in area play. The Tigers and Bearcats will play Tuesday and next Thursday in their final area games of the season.
Hartselle and Cullman also hold tiebreaker advantages over East Limestone, who dropped to 2-2 in area play. West Point is in last place at 0-4.
Deacon Aldridge, Brett Blackwood, Chris Brown, Colton Ord and Zane Hamlett each had hits for the Tigers. East Limestone also walked eight Hartselle batters.
Blackwood hit an RBI single in the first inning to score Aldridge, who had an RBI single of his own in the fourth inning to score Phillips.
East Limestone tied it up on a two-run single in the sixth inning.
But the Tigers loaded the bases thanks to Chris Brown reaching on an error and walks by Easton Chenault and Aaron Lamb.
Phillips then took his base after four straight balls to end the game.
Dakota Fowler went the distance, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and two walks. He also struck out seven batters.
