John E. ‘Pete’ Ward

Funeral for John E. “Pete” Ward, 95, of Hartselle was Fri., April 5, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Walter Blackman officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial was in Hartselle Memory Gardens.

Mr. Ward died Wed., April 3, 2013, at his residence. He was born Sept. 28, 1917, in Morgan County to Columbus Gabriel Ward and Etta Dobbs Ward. Mr. Ward was married for 65 years to the love of his life, Rachel Fay Sims. He was a veteran of World War II in the 4th Infantry. He was a member of East Highland Baptist Church and retired from Wolverine Tube. He loved Alabama football, Atlanta Braves and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel Sims Ward of Hartselle; a son, Del Ward and wife Anita of Hartselle; a daughter, Bonnie Weinman and husband Doug of Hartselle; four grandchildren, Kris Ward and wife Melissa of Hartselle; Nick Ward and wife Cindy of Knoxville, Tenn.; Bo Weinman and wife Kim of Decatur; and Alison Black and husband Jeff of Hartselle; six great-grandchildren, Tyde, Luke and Lillie Ward and Turner, Samantha and Emerson Weinman.

Pallbearers were Bill Smelser, Billy McAbee, Joe Ward, Joe Garrison, Don Hall and Dudley White.

Honorary pallbearers were Mr. Ward’s Sunday school class.
