MCBOE Action Items for April 18

The Morgan County Board of Education acted on matters as follows:

•Approved an out-of-state field trip request from Eva School to allow approximately 30 seventh and eighth grade students to travel to Six Flags in Atlanta, Ga. to attend a Math and Science Day at the park.

•Approved an out-of-state field trip request from Brewer High School to allow 40 students in 10th through 12th grades to travel to Atlantic Station in Atlanta, Ga., to observe the Educational Bodies and Titanic Exhibits.

•Approved an out-of-state field trip request from Priceville High School to allow 19 varsity cheerleaders to attend the UCA cheerleader camp at the University of Tennessee-Martin June 2-5.

•Approved an out-of-state field trip request from Danville Middle School to allow approximately 100 fifth grade BETA Club students to travel to Lake Winnepesaukah Amusement Park on May 17 as an award.

•Approved payment of $4,675 to the National School Boards Association for membership fees for July 1, to June 30, 2014.

•Approved a request from Priceville High School to host a PHS Cheer Camp on June 10-15 in the small gym.

•Approved a request from Priceville High School to host a girls’ basketball camp on campus May 28-31.

•Adopted a resolution recommending that the balance of the Ryan School property be sold by advertised, publicly sought sealed bid, published as provided by law, according to the terms of the invitation for bids for the sale of land located in Morgan County, with a minimum bid as provided by law.

•Approved a loan for Sparkman School to purchase a lawn mower.

•Approved a petition and request of landowner for the annexation of certain property to the Town of Priceville.

•Approved a special education contact wit a parent to provide transportation for a student from home to the MCBOE and back two days per week for a student to attend school, effective April 3.

Superintendent Hopkins recommended and the board approved personnel items as follows:

•Approved five days of unpaid leave, April 22 through April 26, for Jimmy Wayne Speegle, bus driver at Brewer High School.

•Approved an employee supplemental contract with Danielle Dunn as an assistant girls’ soccer coach at Brewer High School for the 2012-2013 season. She is a non-staff coach.

•Approved correction to previously board approved recommendation approving Keri Holmes as ASHGE tutor at Priceville High School for the 2012-2013 school year. The correct name on the recommendation should be “Kim Holmes.”

•Approved a maternity/catastrophic leave of absence request from Leslie Rice, a teacher at West Morgan Elementary School, effective March 6 through May 15.

•Approved catastrophic leave of absence request from Robert Graham, a bus driver at Brewer High School, effective March 20, until the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year.

•Accepted the resignation of Barbara Land, custodian at Lacey’s Spring School, effective June 1.

•Approved a family medical leave request from William Boyer, a custodian at Brewer High School, effective April 1

•Approved cancellation of the three-year principal contact of David Estes, effective May 29.

•Approved application for continued salary in lieu of sick leave from Carol Burgess, CNP worker at Falkville High School, effective for a total of 43 days, March 11, through May 15. She was injured on the job.

•Approved maternity leave of absence request from Lisa Terry, literacy coach at West Morgan Elementary and West Morgan Middle School, effective April 1, through Aug. 9.

•Approved employee supplemental contract with Jeff Bair, West Morgan High, as driver trainer, effective for contract year April 2.

•Approved transfer of Joyce Blankenship from countywide bus aide to countywide bus driver, effective April 12. She is replacing Robin Ferrell who transferred.

• Approved the resignation of Matthew Mooneyham as volleyball coach at Sparkman School, effective April 9.

•Accepted notice of retirement from Pat Thrasher, counselor at Danville Middle School, effective June 1.

•Accepted the resignation of Ginger Hume as yearbook sponsor at Falkville High School, effective at the end of the 2012-2013 school year.

•Accepted notice of retirement from Ginger Hume as computer appolications/9th grade English teacher at Falkville High School, effective June 1.

•Accepted notice of retirement from Linda Woodall as custodian at Falkville High School, effective July 1.

•Accepted notice of retirement from Debbie Easley as a teacher at Priceville Elementary School, effective June 1.

•Accepted notice of retirement from Cindy Calhoun as a teacher at Priceville Elementary School, effective June 1.

•Accepted notice of retirement from Jimmy Scott, principal at Cotaco School, effective June 30.
