152nd MP returns Wednesday

The 152nd Military Police Company is coming home Wednesday during a redeployment ceremony at Sparkman Civic Center.

The unit was based out of the Hartselle armory, which closed last year shortly after the company deployed nearly a year ago.

Maj. Martin Abel, Battalion Executive Officer for the 203rd Military Police Battalion, said the company wanted to come back to Hartselle even though its headquarters have now been moved to Decatur.

“I talked with Mayor (Dwight) Tankersley about having the redeployment ceremony at the civic center since their deployment ceremony was also there,” Abel said. “The people of Hartselle have been good to this unit. There’s still several from the unit that are from Hartselle. We just wanted to do this to say thank you to the community for their support through the years.”

The ceremony is scheduled to begin at noon on Wednesday at Sparkman Civic Center. Abel said the ceremony would be brief.

“All of the soldiers are ready to get back home and see their families,” Abel said. “I know the last thing they want is a long ceremony with a lot of speeches. They want to get back home with their families.”
