Hartselle softball clinches regional berth
The Lady Tigers advanced to the finals of the Class 5A, Area 15 Softball Tournament Friday morning by blanking second-seeded East Limestone, 11-0.
They were awaiting the outcome of a loser’s bracket game between Cullman and East Limestone to determine the top seed for the North Regional Softball Tournament in Huntsville next week.
Winning pitcher Faulk helped her cause at the plate by belting a home run and collecting a pair of singles. She had four RBIs and scored a pair of runs. On the mound, she allowed no runs on three hits while striking out three and walking two batters.
Other Hartselle batters collecting hits were Holt with a homerun and single, Battles Hayes with three singles, Haley Jared with a a pair of singles, Hayes with a double, and Boggs, Wascavage and Sittason with a single each.
Hartselle 9, Cullman 1
Hartselle’s Lady Tigers took care of business in the opening round of the Class 5A Area 15 Tournament on Thursday afternoon as they easily defeated Cullman’s Lady Bearcats, 9-1. in a five-inning game at the Grady and Margie Long Softball Complex in Hartselle.
Ashley Boggs paced the winners at the plate with three hits and three RBIs. Jada Hayes, the winning pitcher, belted a two-run single and scored twice, and Sarah Ellen Battles, Baylee Holt, Kayla Faulk, Taylor Wascavage, Madeline Sittason and Haley Jared each singled.
Hayes limited Cullman batters to a single run on five hits while striking out seven.
The Lady Tigers advanced to a second round winner’s bracket game this morning due to the threat of inclement weather.
