Hartselle falls to No. 1 Scottsboro

No. 1 Scottsboro hit a bases-loaded, walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat No. 2 Hartselle in the Class 5A North Regional Saturday morning.

The Lady Tigers will now face the winner of Lawrence County vs. Arab in the loser’s bracket on Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Lady Wildcats loaded the bases with a single and two walks before the one-out, game-winning single.

Haley Jared took the loss, allowing one run on three hits with three walks and one strikeout during three and one-third innings of work.

Kayla Faulk pitched the first five innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits and six walks with two strikeouts.

Scottsboro got on the board with a two-out RBI single in the third inning.

Hartselle’s Hope Cain hit a two RBI single in top of the fifth inning to give the Lady Tigers a 2-1 lead.

That lead was short-lived, as Scottsboro tied it up with an RBI double in the bottom half of the inning.

Pitchers held the teams scoreless for the next three innings, until Scottsboro scored the game-winning run in the ninth.

Cain, the No. 9 hitter, was 2-for-3 in the game. Sarah Ellen Battles, Kayla Faulk, Taylor Wascavage and Jada Hayes had the other Hartselle hits.

Hartselle 12, Muscle Shoals 0 (5)

Jada Hayes pitched a no-hitter in five innings to help lead the Tigers to the 12-0 win.

She finished with five strikeouts and two walks.

Baylee Holt the led the Hartselle hitting with a 3-for-4 effort including a two-run home run. Kayla Faulk also homered and finished 2-for-4.

Battles, Ashley Boggs and Taylor Wascavage all had two hits for the Lady Tigers in the win.
