SoulStock set for May 18

SoulStock, a free outdoor Christian music festival, will be held on Fri., May 18, at Point Mallard Park. The gates will open on Friday at 6 p.m. and on Sat., May 19, at 2 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend and please bring your lawn chair or blankets and also please bring gently worn or new shoes for Soles 4 Souls..

Please do not bring any coolers, spike style beach umbrellas or pets inside the fenced Spirit of America field area.

Sun., May 5, was the annual Decoration Day at Friendship Baptist Church, near Danville. The message for the memorial service was delivered by the Rev. Dewey L. Briscoe at 11 a.m. Many families enjoyed gathering for the service, visiting and lunch. The following families enjoyed attending the service: the Crowes, Holladays, Hogans, Penns, Hunters, Duttons, Gibsons, Reids, Grays, Fitzgeralds, Steeles, Halls, Fields, Smiths, Popes, Alldredges, Bryants, Harveys, Burgesses, Morrises and many more.

Peggy and Lewie Rogers of the Johnson Chapel community returned to the home of their daughter, Pam Chaffin, oe, Sat., May 4, in Spanish Fort. Both Peggy and Lewie have Home Health Care therapists. The Johnson Chapel United Methodist Church Ladies are providing meals for them for awhile. It is good news that Peggy is able to be home after her injury in December and the answer to many prayers.

Prayers and get-well wishes go out this week for Mildred Prater of Danville, who fell and injured her shoulder. She had surgery and is back home recovering now.

The 2013 Danville High School Seniors, announce their Commencement Exercise to be held on Tues., May 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the Smith-Owens Stadium.

Special belated happy birthday wishes go out this week for Gary Hill and Larry Hill on May 1, Brandon Turrentine on May 2, Scott LaRoche, Luke Campbell, Wes Campbell and Courtney Self on May 3, Payton Boyd and Kay Vest Hanline on May 6, Wylie Reaves on May 8, Anna Bibb May and Dalton Faulkner on May 9, Nicholas Pendleton on May 10, Maddie Heard on May 11, Bob Sims, Dylan Newell and Shane Boyd on May 13, Perry Jones on May 14.

Happy birthday wishes also go out this week for Emily Long, David M. Sapp and John L. Garrison on May 15, Kristin Dobbins and Sherri Clark on May 16, Tiffany Parker and Danny Wallace on May 17, Dustin Holbert, Kelsey Roberts and Jason Boyd on May 19.

Falkville United Meth-odist Church members enjoyed lunch in the fellowship hall after the 11 a.m. worship service Sun., May 5. Their Honduras Mission group trip is scheduled for June. The members are requesting donations this month of over the counter pills for stomach problems and aspirin tablets. The Rev. John Russell is coordinating the supplies and the trip for Falkville and Gandy’s Cove United Methodist Church participants.

Gail Miller of Neel and Dana Henslee and Christy Guthrie, both of Hartselle, represented Corinth West Baptist Church at the Women’s Conference on May 2-5. This event was conducted by Phil Waldrep Ministries in Myrtle Beach, S.C.. The theme for the meeting was Women of Joy and was very uplifting, educational and fun, the ladies reported.

McKendree United Methodist Church Youth conducted a spring project of maintaining the shrubs and flowers at the church. The youth leader is Kevin Crawley. Church volunteers helped the youth spread a load of mulch in the plant beds surrounding the church Wed., May 1. The adults and youth enjoyed supper in the fellowship hall and their Bible studies following the meal.

Roundtop Community Church’s men’s group hosted breakfast for the ladies of the church and area on Mother’s Day, May 12, at 8:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall.

Special belated happy wedding anniversary wishes go out this week to Barry and Meagan Welton who celebrated their second wedding anniversary May 14, David and Ruth Sparkman who celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on May 6 and James and Sandra Roden who celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on May 6. Very special belated happy wedding anniversary wishes go out for Bobby and Nell Dobbins who celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary on May 11.
