Traffic stop nets two meth arrests

Two men are in jail today after a Morgan County Sheriff’s deputy stopped an erratic driver on U.S. 231 in Lacey’s Spring and found methamphetamine in the vehicle.

The driver, Benjamin Daniel Lusk, 37, and his passenger, Ricardo Abel Chavez Martinez, 28, were arrested May 28 and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. They are being held at the Morgan County Jail each on a $2,800 bond.

Sheriff Ana Franklin said in a press release that the deputy stopped a vehicle that was being driven erratically, traveling south on Highway 231 in Lacey’s Spring area on Tues., May 28.

During the investigation, the deputy located 3.8 grams of methamphetamine combined on both suspects and located a glass smoking pipe within vehicle.

A hold was placed on Martinez for Immigration Crime Enforcement due to the inability to determine his legal residency status.
