McKendree UMC youth enjoy fellowship

The McKendree United Methodist Church youth group enjoyed a trip to Moe’s in Decatur for lunch, after the morning worship service May 26. Following the meal, they played mini-golf at Rainforest Glow-in-the-Dark Mini-Golf.

On June 2, the McKendree youth group enjoyed a cookout and redneck waterslide after the morning worship service. Youth leaders, Kevin and Stephanie Crawley and other adults had a great time as well.

Kevin Crawley is in charge of the July vacation Bible school at McKendree UMC. Plans will be announced soon.

The members of Shady Grove Baptist Church express Christian love and prayers for the following who are on the church prayer list: the Dale McQueen family, Olivia Alred, Sidney Woznicki, Clayton Clemons, Michelle Burcham, Sherry Anderson, Melba Stewart, Loretta Headly, Jan Turner, Paula S. McCravy, Tut McCaghren, Debra Oliver, Judy and Jim Barlow, Beulah Lane, the Martin family, Herman Lassiter, Mike Terry, Lillian Hancock, Penny Hazel, Ray Simmons, Edward Kelso, Syble Anders, Dennis Olive, Steve Franklin, Mick Morgan, Kristy Bonds, Harold Ingle and Robert and Bertha Self.

The Rev. Mike Vest and wife Tammy and Derrell and Beth Shelton attended the annual North Alabama Methodist Conference at Birmingham Southern College Sunday through Tuesday. Rev. Vest is the pastor at Danville and McKendree United Methodist Churches. Derrell is the lay delegate to the meetings from McKendree.

Christian love and heartfelt sympathy goes out this week to Rob and Lucy Vest Slater on the death of their granddaughter, Jaiden Coppens, who was fatally injured in an automobile accident in Huntsville on May 28. May God bless and be with all of Jaiden’s family and friends during this time of sadness.

Special belated happy birthday wishes go out this week to Sarah Hadley Gaines on May 27.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Bobby Dumas at the Cullman Nursing Home this week.

Dakota McClung in South Korea, Jeff Hartsfield in Afghanistan, Brandon Jones in Iraq, Derek Jones in the Marines, Aaron Money in Afghanistan, Jeremy White in Virginia, Jack C. Herbert, John Black, Josh Spinks,and Joseph Hardin in Southwest Asia, Seth Fagan in the Marines, Anthony Thomas, Matthew Young, Lee Thompson, Brad Wallace and David Long. May God bless each one of our soldiers and their families.

The Falkville High School Class of 1952 met for its monthly breakfast at Libby’s in Priceville on May 25. The leader of the group, Howard Gibson, conducted business for the meeting and the session on classmate news. Members of the class and guests attending were Ray and Betty Sanders, Howard and Helen Gibson, Pete Lee, Bob and Charlotte Evans Wise, Sarah Hadley Gaines, Kenneth and Betty Appleton Harpe, Shirley Cooper Neill nnd Bill Coard and daughter Dot Brown. Ina Holladay Hucks takes care of class communications and Betty Sanders is in charge of flowers.

The June breakfast meeting will be Sat., June 22, at 8:30 a.m.

Louise Post Sample has moved from Mountain Brook to Gulf Shores to be near her daughter.

Fred Hogan is retiring from his breakfast chef job and host at the Pure Restaurant in Vinemont. Fred worked at All-Steak Restaurant for many years. His former co-workers gave him a surprise 80th birthday party in April.

Scotty and Betty Wilson Parker visited her sister, Shelba, and family in Texas during the Memorial Day weekend.
