Shady Grove Baptist Church hosts men’s Bible study

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church are hosting a men’s Bible study each Sunday at 5 p.m. The theme for the Bible study will be “Twelve Ordinary Men: How the Master Shaped His Disciples for Greatness, and What He Wants to Do with You,” a book written by John MacArthur.

Shady Grove Church has a contemporary worship service each Sunday at 6 p.m. The pastor of Shady Grove Baptist Church is Brother Tom Campbell.

The Rev. Billy Ray Young and the choir from the First Missionary Baptist Church presented the afternoon worship and music service at Summerford Nursing Home on Sun., June 2, at 1:30 p.m. The patients, visitors and staff all enjoyed the group.

After the program, the choir with keyboard player Julian Warner, enjoyed going down the hallways and singing for those who cannot leave their rooms.

In the activity room, Pastor Chuck Oden from Victory Independent Baptist Church played the guitar and led the singing of old church hymns and gospel songs for an hour. The Missionary Baptist choir closed the service by singing, “Just A little Talk With Jesus” and a spiritual medley of other songs. Pastor Oden led the closing prayer.

Special congratulations go out this week to Mike and Sharon Bullard Jones who were married on May 24 at Shady Grove Baptist Church by Pastor Tom Campbell.

The members of Shady Grove Baptist Church will sponsor a young ladies brunch on Thur., July 13, at 9 a.m. Amy George will speak on “A Living Worthy of My Life.”

Falkville United Methodist Church members, Abby Kuykendall, Dana Wilhite, Leigh Ann Wilhite, Susan Smith and Pastor Dr. John Russell have been on the Honduras mission trip June 5-12.

Members from Gandy’s Cove United Methodist Church, Madison United Methodist Church and other church groups were involved in the week’s work in Honduras.

Special belated happy birthday wishes go out this week to A.J. Miller Jr. on June 1, Harvey McCleskey, Mathew Campbell and Gloria Dotson on June 2, Blake Adams on June 5, David Self, Clay Locklear and Jeremy White on June 7, Courtney Camper and Bella Claire Parker on June 9, Jessica Lacy on June 10, Jeremy McAbee and Jasper Eddy on June 11.

Happy birthday wishes go out this week for Michael Self and Aiden Baker on June 15, Delbert Vest, Janice Hargett and Dawson Bell on June 16.

The Falkville Quarterback Club sponsored its inaugural Summer Slam Cruise-In Sat., June 8, from 5 to 9 p.m. The event was open to cars, trucks, customs, hot rods, rat rods and motorcycles.

The all-day activities included softball, a barbecue cook-off, a corn hole tournament and a bonfire. They also had live music, featuring Michael Dean, Memphis and Double Shot.

The Falkville Public Library will kick off its summer reading program entitled Dig In and Read, Tues., July 2, at 2 p.m. The programs will be in the Falkville Town Hall courtroom each week. The children, youth and parents will enjoy the events planned; story time, crafts and refreshments. Everyone will be able to check out books and will receive forms for recording books as they complete them this summer. The programs are free and area children and youth are welcome to attend.

Belated happy wedding anniversary wishes go out this week to J.W. and Pat Franklin, who celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary and Chuck and Sharon Holder who celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary, both on June 1.

Happy wedding anniversary wishes go out this week to Tom and Connie Campbell who will celebrate their 44th wedding anniversary on June 14.
