Rowe family holds 43rd reunion

Thoughts and prayers are extended to the family of Grant Smith of Cullman. Mr. Smith passed away Fri., June 21. He was employed as a radio announcer for 25 years at WKUL in Cullman. He announced area football games on Friday nights. He will be missed.

Thoughts and prayers are also extended to the family of Mildred Stephenson. She passed away June 17.

Mrs. Franklin Johnson has returned to her home after a visit with relatives in Barnsville, Ga.

Falkville’ senior center welcomes new members. Anyone 60 years or older may join. Hours are 8 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday.

Lunch is served for a small fee and card games are played.

The group dines out from time to time.

Jeanne Blackmon is a graduate of Falkville High School and National Newspaper Institute, N.Y.

She went back to school after 30 years to get a degree in business management from Wallace State. She has also studied business law.

Mrs. Blackmon has been writing the Falkville News for the Hartselle Enquirer for 58 years this upcoming September.

The Falkville High School Class of 1963 celebrated its 50th class reunion on Sat., June 22. The 45 guests spent the afternoon remembering the past 50 years and sharing with each other. A tour of the campus and a wonderful meal was enjoyed by everyone.

The reunion ended with the release of sky lanterns in memory of classmates, teachers and loved ones.

The 43rd Rowe Family Reunion was held Sun., June 23, in the community room of the Massey Volunteer Fire Depart-ment in Massey.

John and Helen Rowe and Jean Rowe Tankersley organized the first reunion and the tradition continues today. Those attending are the descendants of John Pickens (Pick) and Mattie Lee Rowe (Big Papa and Big Mama) and their families.

Family members gathered Sunday to share memories and enjoy looking through the reunion scrapbooks kept by Ruth Clark Thompson for many years.

Family members came from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Miss-issippi and Tennessee.

The ladies of First Baptist in Falkville had a summer celebration on June 18 at the home of Lawanna Tarpley. The evening featured a buffet of salads and desserts.

The 40 guests dined in a French country garden setting with lush flowerbeds, fountains and tea lights.

Cooper Williams celebrated his 5th birthday at his home. His parents are Austin and Crystal Williams.

The theme of the party was hunting and fishing. Guests were family and friends. Party foods were served.

Birthday wishes are extended to Linda Alldrege on June 30. Belated birthday wishes are extended to Judy Gover on June 25, Phyliss Teague and Linda Bryan, both on June 26 and Jennie Foote on June 28.
